A note from Linda
Hi Ladies! My year is flying by, how about yours? I started out a New Year’s letter, and here it is March…well, better late than never as they say…
What a blessing it is to have Jesus! So many people in our world don’t. They just live life, the same old mundane, day to day stuff, no joy, no adventure. But we who know Jesus live a constant adventure!
Just recently the Lord brought a hurting soul into my office. It was a lady who I had never met, but has attended our church a time or two, she said. This was one hurting individual who was feeling like she had no happiness because of the garbage that had been thrown her way. Suffice it to say, her life in general was a mess, very sad.
When I asked her if she had a good support base of Christian friends (yes, she is a believer), she said no, she doesn’t go to church because she doesn’t want to be judged, she doesn’t want people feeling sorry for her and the church has too many hypocrites…you know the stuff. I felt the Lord saying, “Don’t try to defend my Church, just love on her and hear her heart.” I told her that the Church is basically a hospital full of sick people (did I really just say that?
, that are on the journey to heaven. We’re all working through stuff, we all have problems and we all need God’s grace for the journey. And what a journey it can be sometimes, eh?
As partners in ministry with our husband, ‘the pastor’, we have so many opportunities to prove people wrong who have misconceptions about the church. The only way to do this is not through defending the church, but through reaching out in love. There are so many hurting people in our world who have tried ‘the church’ and found it wanting… But we can show them that this is not a perfect place, but a loving place that they can come to, just as they are. They don’t have to get ‘fixed up’ first, but will be loved, accepted and forgiven. Our world needs to know that we as a church are not perfect, just forgiven.
The lady I mentioned chose to give us a try and is finding her place in the Body of Christ. her journey is not easy, but she now has a family to share it with. May we be a church family that always reaches out and loves people where they are. Our people learn to do this as they watch us and follow our example as pastors. And when we see it catching on, it’s so exciting!
May God give you many opportunities to show His love in the days ahead. To the lost, to the discontent, to the hurting, to those who have a really bad picture of what the Church is…you can make a difference!
Blessings Galore!
Linda
