B4UD8: 7 Things You Need to Know Before Your Next Date Baker Publishing Group – Hayley and Michael DiMarco
The seven things:
To date with a purpose Take care of the temple Dating is not marriage Have a life Red flags are red for a reason Embrace Rejection Don’t date your idolB4UD8 is a ‘handbook’ written to inform teens about dating and what to know before they start to date. The book is informative because it bases dating on a Biblical foundation, to maintain purity and prevent future heartache. Personally I have found that if teenagers were to understand these concepts and have a firm foundation before dating the chances of their hearts being broken would be a lot slimmer! Simple and easy to read as well as humorous so that teens, especially younger ones will be kept interested.
Battlefield of the Mind for Teens Written by Joyce Meyers
Joyce Meyers has written a book, designed towards teens that teach them to keep a positive mindset. I quote her when I say “If you have a negative mind-set, you will have a negative life. But if you renew your mind according to God’s plan for you, you will have an abundant life. It’s that simple.” Proverbs 23:7 states For as he thinks in his heart, so is he… this is the main point that Meyers tries to get the teens to understand.
Reading the book, I was introduced with staggering statistics about teens. American statistics such as “almost half of all 9th- through 12th- graders have had sex- including 61 percent of high-school seniors (and teens who watch TV are more than twice as likely to have sex as those who are more discerning about TV viewing)” as well as “an average age in which a teen uses drugs is 13”. While introducing these statistics she wants to show the teenagers how powerful the mind is and what can happen when we allow ourselves to compromise our great gift.
She also teaches us that our mind is an incredibly powerful weapon and we can otherwise use it fruitfully, or fruitlessly that will end up harming us in the end. The application to the book is backed up by many scripture references. Protecting the mind can happen in many ways, that which are mentioned in the book. This book is designed to help teens of today protect their mindsets.
